ANALYSIS:

The Ravens sit atop the AFC and are the best team in football. They’ve just come out of a gruelling stretch against three good teams in the form of Rams, 49ers and Bills unscathed with 3 wins.

Buffalo 7

SF 3

Rams 39

Houston 34

Bengals 36

Patriots 17

Seahawks 14

Bengals 6

Steelers 3

ANALYSIS:

That’s 9 wins on the trot including a host of impressive wins, including 3 straight by 30+ off the back of 14/17 point wins against the Patriots and Seahawks respectively. They’ve got the #1 rushing offence in the league and Lamar has all but cemented himself as the MVP.

The Ravens are averaging 33.1 ppg this season and we should see them eclipse that here against a poor Jets team whose secondary is dreadful as we’ve outlined on numerous times this season and continues to give up big plays.

However the aspect of this team that’s not getting talked about much is their defence. Since acquired Peters, the Ravens rank third in yards given up and second in points.

Sam Darnold has struggled behind one of the worst O-lines in the league. Defensively this Ravens unit is very blitz happy and it would not be a surprise to see a similar game plan utilised by Bill Belichick and the Patriots in their encounter a few weeks ago, which saw Darnold struggle immensely and throw 4 interceptions. Don’t be surprised to see multiple turnovers from the young QB here. Adam Gase continues to put his QB in unfavourable situations and they will struggle to score against this formidable Ravens defence.

The Ravens are the #1 first quarter team in the NFL and have led in 8/9 of their games in this winning streak at HT with the only other game being against the Seahawks when the scores were tied at the main break. Expect the Ravens to race out the blocks, likely with an opening drive TD and proceed in style from there.

A win here will see the Ravens wrap up the AFC North and they know if they win out they’ll be guaranteed home field advantage throughout the playoffs which is massive, so don’t expect them to take their foot off the pedal.

Onto the second half of our play. Is there any duo in professional sports you’d rather have to close out a challenge than Tom Brady and Bill Belichick? No.

The 1-12 Bengals rank as our worst overall team with the 25th ranked offence and 29th ranked defence as well as a below average special teams.

The Patriots showed signs of improvement offensively against the Chiefs and the Bengals, who give up the most rushing yards and second most overall should be the tonic that the Patriots needed to overcome their offensive slump.

Defensively this Patriots side still rank #1 in yards allowed and interceptions and against this abysmal offensive line and turnover worthy side they should have no issues restricting their scoring.

The Bengals have been terrible at converting red zone opportunities this year and to make things worse, their second leading receiver Auden Tate is out on IR further weakening an already depleted receiver corp.

The Patriots blocked their FOURTH punt of the season against the Chiefs, as they once again have one of the special teams in the league (which should come as no surprise to anyone with Bill at the helm). Look for them to make a big play in this game – another area where the patriots have the advantage.

It’s been 17 years since the Patriots lost 3 in a row and with a lot at stake in the playoff picture, this is a must win game for the Patriots and they will deliver, as they have on countless occasions. With the better offence, defence, special teams and coaching – the Patriots return to winning ways here.
