Nishikori has made a solid comeback to tennis just in time for a deep Grand Slam run at the French. Looking at his draw that might actually be pretty tough and later on his fitness may be questioned, however, he has a pretty easy match first up. Dan Evans is as far away from a clay courter as you could find. The Brit stays very far away from the clay season and barely has 20 matches on the surface in the last 3-4 years. Nishikori needs to be winning this.
Andy Murray hasn’t played on Clay since 2017…… And his last match on it, lost to Wawrinka. Whilst Murray leads the h2h 13-8, Wawrinka leads 3-1 on Clay. And with the recent injuries that Murray has faced, he just isn’t the same player he once was. Wawrinka has too many weapons and moves a lot better on clay. Murray has struggled to find his top 10 form again and it will be very difficult to find it here against the Swiss legend.

De Minaur leads the h2h 3-1, although Cecchinato did win their only meeting on clay 2-1 at Rome last year. De Minaur can definitely handle himself on clay with his outstanding defence, and Cecchinato just hasn’t been convincing in the last few years. We should see a pretty close match and expect Cecchinato to find a set off Alex. But over 5 sets De Minaur should be too strong here and advance to the second round.
